While rapid microbiological assessment of the total microbial population provides clear guidance on the appropriate action to be taken in most cases, there are some situations where optimized microbiological control is achieved through targeting different ‘types’ of microorganisms. Whereas bacteria are generally the predominant organism of concern, other types of organisms can be equally detrimental, such as Fungi, Algae, or Protozoa. The common thread amongst these organisms compared to bacteria is that each cell is typically much larger. The Differential Quench-Gone Organic Modified (dQGO-M) method leverages this size difference to provide an indication of larger microorganisms compared to smaller microorganisms. Although it does not specifically identify the types of microorganisms present, the information provided can be utilized by operators to make more informed decisions about the types of mitigation to enact in the face of microbiological contamination.
Microbiological risks come in many shapes and sizes. Traditional reference methods tell only a part of the story because they detect only a fraction of the population. 2nd Generation ATP testing systems overcome this limitation to give you a first line of defense for superior microbial control and same-shift problem solving!
2nd Generation technology is a dramatic improvement over previous ATP tests. The QGA test kit is specific to active microorganisms only and is essentially interference-free when used for water samples. A low detection limit of 0.1 pg cATP per mL means that microbial contamination is found sooner to enable faster remediation and lower operating costs.
