Proven. Trusted. Reliable.
The solution for exhaust gas cleaning systems.

Hach’s new PAH500 sensor was designed specifically for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) measurement in maritime EGCS (scrubber) applications. The IMO’s decision to lower the Sulphur cap to 0.50% will be impactful in improving air quality, but this means as a ship owner, you need to be prepared to be compliant. Ship owners require maximum uptime for analytical equipment. The PAH500 was designed with this in mind.

A unique flow through design minimizes fouling while providing quick, accurate readings. Nitrogen purged, a quartz measurement tube, and a titanium body ensure that the PAH500 is robust and reliable in harsh EGCS applications. Primary phenanthrene standards and calibration kits are available for easy calibration and quick verification in the field by end-users, giving peace of mind that everything is operating as expected.

Along with the PAH500, Hach also offers DNV-GL approved solutions for pH, turbidity, and conductivity.

For over 85 years, Hach has offered water analysis solutions for process, lab and handheld applications. Within the maritime industry, Hach’s solutions can be found onboard vessels for gas scrubber applications, waste and potable water monitoring, ballast water disinfection monitoring, and recreational water monitoring. Hach has a global support network with locations in Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, and the Caribbean. With Hach, ship owners can:

- Maintain SOx compliance without hiring additional onboard expertise
- Avoid fines by meeting USCG and IMO regulations
- Provide safe water to passengers and ensure water is safe to discharge
- Reduce treatment costs

Applications:

  • Ballast Water
  • Discharge
  • Industrial Wastewater
  • Petrochemical

Benefits

Reliability

With hundreds of successful installations on inlet and outlet scrubber applications, you can have confidence in accurate readings, maximum uptime, premium service and support from a global water quality company. The PAH500 is the online oil-in-water sensor that delivers high sensitivity with low cost of ownership.
Hach’s 85 years of water analysis leadership, experience, and innovation ensure that you’re getting the best instrument and peace of mind to go along with it.

Certifications

We understand how important your business and your equipment are to you, that's why we take pride in receiving certifications from the following organisations:
Maritime Type Approvals: DNV-GL, ABS, ClassNK, Japanese Government, and Korean Register**
Marine Environmental Protection Committee: MEPC.259(68) from DNV-GL
Certification demonstrates Hach's commitment to continual improvement and sustainable business performance.

** Certifications may be pending final reviews & certifications with certain Maritime Societies.

Minimal Maintenance

With no tubes, pumps, or valves that can foul, maintenance is limited to occasional cleaning of the quartz tube and service once every other year to stay in compliance with IMO regulations (annual for USCG regulations). After all, why spend time on maintenance when you don’t have to?

Built for Maritime

The PAH500 was purpose built for harsh maritime applications. It can detect and measure polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from 0 - 900 ppb (µg/L). Titanium housing and quartz measurement tube help to eliminate corrosion in exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) applications. The sensor is nitrogen purged from the factory, ensuring reliable operation in humid environments. The light source, filtering, and calibration for Phenanthrene in exhaust gas scrubbers mean that this sensor is designed specifically for your application.
Hach offers a variety of products to support your EGCS application and comply with IMO regulations including:
• Ultraturb sc (Turbidity)
• pHD (pH)
• Series 3700 (Conductivity)
• SC1000 (Controller)
